New Orleans Saints Accused Of Drug Misuse

A civil suit was recently filed against the Super Bowl Champions New Orleans Saints by their former security director. The team's former security director, who is also a former FBI agent, filed the civil lawsuit against the New Orleans Saints because of an alleged cover up for a "senior staff member" who stole Vicodin.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has learned about the civil lawsuit and they are now looking into it to determine if a criminal investigation is warranted.

The civil suit claims that a surveillance video had captured a senior staff member, believed to be Joe Vitt, using a trainer's key to take Vicodin from the team's drug locker. Vitt is the Saints linebackers coach and was also briefly the head coach of the St. Louis Rams. The complaint also alleges that the Saints current head coach, Sean Payton, was permitted to take large amounts of Vicodin from the drug locker.

The complainant, Geoffrey Santini, claims he was ordered to cover up the thefts and that two trainers were ordered to "doctor" the log books to make it appear the Vicodin was present and accounted for. Santini states this is why he had resigned from the job and he is demanding back pay and damages. According to Pro Football Talk, Santini had been asking for $2 million prior to filing the civil suit.

So far Sean Payton has stated he has never abused or stolen Vicodin and Vitt has not made a comment.

It will be interesting to see how this one turns out. Will it simply be a case of a gruntled former employee who is trying to make a monetary gain, or is this real and the Saints will be disgraced after winning their first Super Bowl in franchise history?
